Dr. Raja Staggers-Hakim

Dr. Raja Staggers-Hakim is a social researcher and skilled facilitator in the areas of health inequities, social inequality, and race & racism. Raja Staggers-Hakim received a doctorate in medical sociology and race, class, and gender studies (social inequality) from Howard University and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Education from New York University. Dr. Staggers-Hakim has nearly twenty years of experience working with non-profit organizations. Raja has worked in an accelerated leadership with the Hill Health Center (New Haven, CT), CAEAR Foundation (Washington, DC), Harlem Children’s Zone (New York), and the Commission on Health Equity (Hartford, CT). Dr. Staggers-Hakim has over 10-years teaching experience in higher education including American University, Eastern Connecticut State University, Sacred Heart University, Simmons College, Monroe College, and Touro University Worldwide. She has presented her research at national conferences including the American Public Health Association, Association of Black Sociologist, and the Fair Housing and Civil Rights Conference (Springfield, MA). Dr. Staggers-Hakim has facilitated national conversations on discrimination and the impact on health and led training on diversity, cultural competency, advocacy, and equity. She has worked with national non-profits and provided training and technical assistance in strategic planning, program development, program evaluation, and board development. Dr. Staggers-Hakim is the Founder and Executive Director of Community Health Education Empowerment and Research (CHEER) Institute, a non-profit organization based in Hartford, CT which addresses health inequities among racial-ethnic and low-income communities. She is also the owner and Lead Consultant of CHEER Consulting Group, a small, women and minority-owned consulting firm that provides cross-sector diversity and inclusion training.
